A Field Interpolated Texture Mapping Algorithm for Skeletal Implicit Surfaces

چکیده
We address the problem of texture mapping implicit surfaces. Recent work in providing 2D mappings for implicit surfaces maps points from an auxiliary parametric (support) surface to the implicit surface. In this work we extend this method by observing that all commonly used skeletal elements are easily parameterized and can be used as their own support surfaces. In areas of a surface defined by the combination of multiple skeletal primitives we compute a mapping through relations found with the zero level surface of a primitive by using the gradient field.

Texture mapping with atlases suffer from several drawbacks: Wasted memory, seams, uniform resolution and no support of implicit surfaces. Texture mapping in a volume solves most of these issues, but unfortunately it induces an important space and time overhead. To address this problem, we introduce the TileTree: A novel data structure for texture mapping surfaces. TileTrees store square texture...
متن کاملTowards Interactivity on Texturing Implicit Surfaces: A Distributed Approach
We describe a distributed system for texture mapping implicit surfaces. The method uses a particle system associated with the gradient vector field of the function that defines an implicit surface to acquire texture coordinates at a support surface. As each particle trajectory is independent of each other, this method has a special suitability to run in parallel. Our results show good improveme...
متن کاملSimulating anisotropic frictional response using smoothly interpolated traction fields
This paper develops a constitutive description and a computational treatment of anisotropic friction within the context of the finite element method. The theoretical approach makes use of structural tensors that characterize texture, are convected with the material surfaces, and represent the symmetries that reflect changes in relative orientation of the surfaces. In the discrete setting, the t...
متن کاملPyramid Texture Compression and Decompression Using Interpolative Vector Quantization
Texture mapping is a common technique used to increase the visual quality of 3D scenes. As texture mapping requires large memory to deal with large textures generally r e quired in the current visual systems, we propose an algorithm for compressing a pyramid texture used for mipmapping. Vector quantization is used to compress all levels of the pyramid texture to one representative value databoo...
متن کاملNumerical parameterization of curves and surfaces
A method for parameterizing nearly arbitrary implicit plane/space curves and surfaces is introduced. The parameterizations are of class Cn−1 if the given curves/surfaces are of class Cn. The computation of points and derivatives is performed numerically. These parameterizations can be used for controlled determination of points on curves and surfaces and for the application of developed techniq...
